1. Root fracture and internal resorption on tooth 36M

The mesial root of tooth 36 exhibits internal resorption at the midroot level. In addition, a vertical root fracture is present in the apical third of the mesial root of tooth 36. The periodontal ligament space is widened on the buccal surface of the mesial root of the tooth.

Sagittal views of tooth 36

These sagittal cross sectional images demonstrate the localized region of internal resorption in the apical half of the mesial root of tooth 36, as well as the widened periodontal ligament space on the buccal surface of the root of the tooth adjacent to the vertical root fracture.

Axial views of tooth 36

These axial cross sectional images demonstrate the fracture plane in the mesial root of tooth 36, as well as the region of internal resorption associated with the apical half of the mesial root of the tooth.

Coronal views of tooth 36

These coronal cross sectional images demonstrate the normal appearance of the distal root of tooth 36, as well as the slightly irregular shape of the internal resorptive defect in the mesial root of the tooth. Note the widened periodontal ligament space on the buccal surface of the mesial root of the tooth.
