Right mandibular nerve buccal to tooth 48

The right mandibular nerve courses buccal to the fused mesial and distal roots of the mesioangularly impacted tooth 48. No nerve compression is present. The follicle surrounding the crown of tooth 48 appears normal. Due to patient movement during acquisition of this scan, the periodontal ligament space can not be reliably evaluated for evidence of ankylosis. Tooth 48 has not caused damage to the distal surface of tooth 47.

Axial views of tooth 48

These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the buccal position of the right mandibular nerve relative to the roots of tooth 48. The nerve is not compressed as it passes tooth 48.

Sagittal views of tooth 48

These sagittal cross-sectional images demonstrate fusion of the mesial and distal roots of the mesioangularly impacted tooth 48.

Left mandibular nerve encircled by buccal and lingual roots of tooth 38

The left mandibular nerve courses through the furcation between the buccal and lingual roots of tooth 38, and is severely compressed. The buccal and lingual roots of tooth 38 fuse apically, which has resulted in complete encasement of the nerve by the roots of tooth 38. The follicle surrounding the crown of tooth 38 appears normal. Due to patient movement during acquisition of this scan, the periodontal ligament space can not be reliably evaluated for evidence of ankylosis. Tooth 38 has not caused damage to the distal surface of tooth 37.

Coronal views of tooth 38

These coronal cross-sectional images demonstrate the course of the left mandibular nerve between the buccal and lingual roots of tooth 38. The root apices exhibit fusion, which has resulted in complete encirclement of the left mandibular nerve by the roots of tooth 38.

Sagittal views of tooth 38

These sagittal cross-sectional images demonstrate passage of the left mandibular nerve between the buccal and lingual roots of tooth 38. The root apices are fused, which has resulted in complete encirclement of the nerve by the roots of tooth 38.

Axial views of tooth 38

These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate complete encirclement of the left mandibular nerve by the buccal and lingual roots of the mesioangularly impacted tooth 38.

1. Palatine tonsilloliths

Tonsilloliths are present in the palatine tonsils. This is an incidental finding with no clinical significance due to the spontaneous exfoliation of tonsilloliths.

2. Dense bone island apical to tooth 46

A dense bone island is present within the mandibular body apical to tooth 46. This represents an incidental finding with no clinical significance.

3. Antral pseudocysts + mucositis

The right and left maxillary sinuses exhibit the presence of antral pseudocysts and mucositis. These findings are incidental in nature and bear no clinical significance.
