Right mandibular nerve lingual to tooth 48D + passes through mesial furcation of tooth 48
The right mandibular nerve courses lingual to the middle third of the distal root, then passes through the furcation between the apical half of the mesiobuccal and mesiolingual roots of the vertically impacted tooth 48. The nerve is moderately compressed within the mesial furcation of tooth 48. The periodontal ligament space is visible around the entire root circumference, which suggests this tooth is not ankylosed. Tooth 48 has not caused damage to the distal surface of tooth 47.
Orthogonal measurements of tooth 48 relative to mandibular nerve canal
These measurements demonstrate the approximate position of the buccal cusp tips, the pulpal floor, and the central groove to the superior cortex of the mandibular nerve canal.
Axial views of tooth 48
These axial cross-sectional images are oriented perpendicular to the long axis of tooth 48, and demonstrate the mesiolingual, mesiobuccal, and distal roots of this tooth. The right mandibular nerve courses lingual to the distal root, then passes through the furcation between the mesiobuccal and mesiolingual roots of tooth 48. There is no evidence of ankylosis.
Mesiodistal views of tooth 48
These mesiodistal cross-sectional images demonstrate the vertical orientation of the impacted tooth 48 relative to tooth 47. The residual follicle appears normal. There is no resorption on tooth 47.
